The doors to hundreds of ‘Badcock & More’ furniture stores in the southeastern region are closing soon. A company called Conn’s bought the chain last December, and now they’re filing for bankruptcy. Badcock has more than 380 stores in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Virginia.
“We got a call from corporate stating that they had declared bankruptcy, and they would be closing all of our stores,” Badcock Store Owner Sonja Reinhardt said.
Does this mean you no longer have to pay your finance and interest charges for your Babcock financed furniture? are a Babcock NO IT DOES NOT. Your debt to Babcock and monthly payments are in fact still owed to Conns/Badcock companies. Those debts typically are sold to another holding company and will collect and come after borrowers if they do not pay. We have had several phone calls recently of Babcock customers asking our law firm if they still have to make their payments to Babcock (or what new holding company it may be now) and the answer is YES. The new collection company is actually likely to be more aggressive, since it has little or no concern about reputation or customers buying more from Conns/Badcock in the future. In short, if you were making your regular monthly payments for your Babcock products, continue to do so or they will come after you and damage your credit.
YES.
