The U.S. Supreme Court has blocked President Joe Biden’s plan to wipe out student loan debt for tens of millions Americans. The program was intended to ease the financial burden on families in the latest significant ruling from the high court that curbs a president’s power to act alone1. The Supreme Court struck down President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness program Friday, blocking millions of borrowers from receiving up to $20,000 in federal student debt relief.
The justices, divided 6-3 on ideological lines, ruled in one of two cases that the program was an unlawful exercise of presidential power because it had not been explicitly approved by Congress. Biden said the ruling was disappointing and vowed to take additional steps to relieve the financial burden on those holding student loan debt.
The Supreme Court might have over ruled president Biden's student loan forgiveness plan but we can still help you.
